An Ode to '07

It's been too long since I've blogged to Ciceron. The end of last year was a blur getting ready for this year. And until now I've resisted listing any predictions for 2007 but resistance it futile considering the absolutely explosive nature of what's happing in online media right now.

So here goes one more predictions list:

Online Video: The clear media winner for 2007. Looks and feels like TV so people with a more traditional bent to media will jump on board. I'm not saying that's a good thing. I'm just saying. The clear winners from a production standpoint will be those who know how to tell a great online video story.

Budgets: For the first time in my 12 years in the business, we have real budgets to work with. And it's not all for paid search! No, this year seems like it's all about great improvements in user experience and opportunities for interaction.

Interactivity: Didn't I just mention that? I did...now twice. Brochureware is -- and should be -- officially dead. No one really wanted it, and the people who created it are now users too, so they feel horrible that they continued it for so long. Interactive user experiences = engagement = brand intimacy = loyalty.

Web-centered Marketing: The web is becoming the hub while other media are becoming the spokes of the marketing wheel (ick...did I just say that?). The web provides the ultimate accountability measure for all media. A "drive to web" strategy keeps everyone honest. And that's a good thing since new research shows once again that the lifetime of corporate CMOs has now dipped to only 23 months. The Web = job security.

There's so much more, but that's it for now. Chin up! It's good times.
